A fabulous family holiday in VDP, our thanks go to Rachel and David for allowing us to 'borrow' their home for our two week holiday. With four adults and two children the Gite was everything and more than we expected.
The locals were welcoming, friendly and helpful. The daily trip for the croissants was one of Saul's holiday memories(aged 10) as it was safe enough to go alone to the village.
The local campsite involved us from our first day where we enjoyed lazy days and themed nights.
The area has many wonderful day trips to keep everyone busy such as canoeing the Dordogne (especially loved by Frankie the Springer Spaniel), the surrounding Bastide towns and the famous caves.
A holiday that will be treasured for many years, thank you so much.

This house is a real delight and extremely comfortable and with the log fires in the evening, enjoyable and cosy. Villefranche is an interesting village with friendly people. We were here for the chestnut harvest and visited many bastide towns, markets and churches, most memorable being Gardens of Marqueyssec and Domme, great ice-creams, roads empty and did not get lost. Spent days lazing on patio.

We had a wonderful week and arriving in the middle of the chestnut festival was a real bonus, so very French! We enjoyed walks in local countryside and visited many bastide towns and villages. Merci Beaucoup. A gorgeous comfortable house! with beautiful views from the terrace. The area is so exquisite and gentle with lovely towns and villages. I tried Nordic walking in the area Prats du Perigord.
A lovely holiday, although slight chill outside the house was warm inside. The area is exquisitely beautiful, there was a bonus harvest of chestnuts and walnuts that we enjoyed collecting on our walks.

We have visited Villefranche du Perigord twice, both times very different but equally enjoyable. During our holidays we managed to cram in visits (amongst others) to the largest freshwater aquarium in Europe at the Aquarium du Perigord Noir, an enchanting tour of the Chateau de Commarque, a castle that lay undiscovered for hundreds of years and a ride on a medieval Gabarre on the Dordogne river at the winemaking capital of Burgundy. The highlight of our two visits was the town of Rocamadour, a town built into the very rock of the mountains itself, truly a magnificent spectacle.
We could not fault the accommodation, it was spacious and welcoming and always a relaxing place to come home to after a hard days sightseeing. If you're looking for a holiday to relax and unwind then this is definitely the place for you.

We enjoyed a wonderful week in Villefranche du Perigord- the house was very welcoming and perfect for our needs – very clean, comfortable, so much space and everything you could possibly need plus a lovely welcome from the key holder and a bottle of local wine! Sitting on the terrace until late watching the stars drinking wine, or sitting watching the world go by at Jean Marie’s café after visits to various beautiful bastide towns, castles, ancient churches and riverside beaches was just fantastic! We are looking forward to our next visit!
